Our first AI report – available to download for free – explores the transformative impact of artificial intelligence on fashion, through exclusive editorial, tech vendor profiles and interviews, and market analysis.

Like every industry, fashion is witnessing an explosion of AI, and it’s becoming clear that a technological revolution is sparking a new era of cultural evolution. Strategic adoption of AI models, applications, and services is now an urgent business imperative, but at the same time the wider world is grappling with big, unanswered, questions around jobs, copyright, creativity, ethics, and just how far the vast possibility space of AI is going to translate into real, practical solutions.

The conversation around AI may be impossible to avoid, but clarity is still in short supply. Which is why The Interline – with support from our friends and partners at MMGNET Group – chose to focus our first deep-dive downloadable report of 2024 on the pragmatic side of artificial intelligence. Beyond the hype, what does it actually mean to bring a new paradigm of computing together with one of the most creative and culturally-anchored industries in the world?

Available to download from today, free and un-gated, our inaugural AI Report spans close to 200 pages and packs in exclusive editorial from a range of industry perspectives, detailed technology vendor profiles and executive interviews, and our initial baseline market analysis for AI in fashion.

Continuing the choice we provided with our 2023 DPC Report, we’re also offering the AI Report 2024 in two file sizes: a lighter “Shareable” version, which is the best fit for most use cases, and a larger “Quality” version, with uncompressed artwork, for anyone intending to read on high-DPI displays, or looking to keep an archival copy.

The AI Report 2024 is split into the following sections:

  • Introductions and industry background, with perspectives from our Editor-in-Chief and from Kelly Helfman, President of MMGNET Group, on why and how fashion should be talking about AI.
  • 10+ exclusive editorials, written by our own contributors, fashion executives, and business leaders – who each provides a different perspective on the impact AI is already having, or will have, on both the culture and the mechanics of fashion.
  • 14 comprehensive profiles of technology vendors who have either introduced new AI solutions or added meaningful new AI capabilities into their existing platforms. Each of these is accompanied by an interview with a senior executive.
  • Our baseline analysis of the AI market for fashion – setting an initial benchmark for further exploration in future reports.

The AI Report 2024 is designed to present an objective, grounded perspective on the role of artificial intelligence in fashion. As is the case with all The Interline’s reports, our aim is for realism rather than promise and potential, but each of our contributors was free to provide their own unvarnished take on AI. Their topics are:

  • A welcome to the AI era from Editor-in-Chief, Ben Hanson.
  • A foreword from Kelly Helfman, President of MMGNET Group.
  • An A-Z primer of AI terms and their implications, from The Interline team.
  • An exclusive interview about tools, process, and futures with our cover designer – and now Group Director for Digital Transformation & Innovation at Lanvin Group – Baris Gencel.
  • An in-depth look at what a radically reimagined, AI-native fashion value chain might look like by Jonathan Brun, Co-Founder & CEO Off/Script.
  • A deep dive into how AI is transforming some jobs and why others could be at risk, from MacKenzie Ryan, an investigative journalist and contributor to The Guardian.
  • A critical analysis on whether AI will break down fashion’s barriers, or entrench existing biases, from a long-time contributor to The Interline, and Partnerships Manager at Central Saint Martins, Aasia D’Vaz Sterling.
  • A view on how, and how quickly, the next generation of talent is being prepared for a transformed working environment by The Interline’s News & Features Editor, Emma Feldner-Busztin.
  • An examination of AI’s as a one-size-fits-all innovation and whether the infrastructure to support the demands of AI in all its different forms is being built to scale, by Kevin Cochrane, Chief Marketing Officer of Vultr.
